Our school is Coolanarney National school. It is in the parish of Killoughey in the diocese of Meath. It is situated near Tullamore in Co. Offaly. There are two other schools in our parish. They are Gortnamona N.S. and Mount Bolus N.S. Our school is on the Cloghan road, about two kilometres from the Blueball.

We have four classrooms in our school now. Two are in the main building and the others are prefabricated classroom at the back. One of the prefabs is a full sized classroom and the other is a smaller one which is used as a learning support / resource room. Two converted cloakrooms in the main building serve as a staff room and a store room.

Our three class teachers are Mrs. Frances Lynch, the principal, who teaches 4th, 5th. & 6th. classes, Ms. Leonie O'Hanlon who teaches 2nd and 3rd class and Ms. Lorraine Mahon who teaches Infants and 1st class. Our shared special education teacher is Ms. Mary Costelloe. Mrs. Kathleen Norton is our S.N.A. The caretaking staff are Mrs. Michelle Bennett and Mrs. Anne Daly. Ms. Majella Killeen is our music teacher and the secretary is Mrs. Clare Daly.

The School Crest:

(1) The Mass Rock from Coolanarney lane reminding us of our past.
(2) Blossom from a blackthorn tree because the Irish translation of Coolanarney is Cul an Airne which means corner of the sloes; the fruit of the blackthorn.
(3) A book standing for school and learning.
(4) A sliotar and hurley reminding us of our traditional sports which we all enjoy.
